News from Isabel Acheson for issue of July 24, 2025

Somerset Bible Chapel

Sunday July 20 was a cooler, rainy morning that developed into a sunny afternoon. The event for the day, after the potluck lunch, was a motor sports outing for those with small motor bikes, side by sides, etc.

The worship service opened with announcements presented by Ernie Unrau. Pastor Jeff Peacock was music team leader with Jamie Small at piano and Alanna Peacock doing readings to introduce some of the songs. Matt Penner served as usher, Clayton Kimber led the Prayer Focus, and Isabel A. read the Scripture lesson from Matthew 18:10-14.

Selected verses from Psalm 34 served as a Call to Worship. Singing began with “Blessed Be Your Name”, “Here I Am to Worship” (Light of the World), then “10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord)”. A reading from Ps. 103 preceded “You Are My All in All” and from 2 Corinthians 4:7-8, 16-18 with “Yet Not I, But Through Christ In Me”.

Pastor Jeff Peacock in his sermon on “The Parable of the Lost Sheep” spoke  briefly on the reference to angels in v. 10, then noted the importance of caring for other disciples of Christ, especially those who are new and immature (like children). He noted there is a warning against belittling others and against causing others to be led astray.

The Good Shepherd (v.12-14) searches for the lost sheep and when he finds it he calls others to rejoice with him. He binds up wounds and restores the sheep to the flock. God loves his family like that. v. 14 He desires that no one perish.

Pastor Jeff then applied the lesson: What do we do? Do we gossip, slander, and put down? Or, do we reach out to reclaim and restore? The whole chapter relates to church discipline.

Christians are called to be humble, to avoid causing another to stumble, to deal with sin seriously, to care for one another deeply, and to forgive freely because we have been forgiven much.

The sermon closed with prayer, the doxology and a benediction.
