Welcome back from Christmas Break. Worship services were held Dec. 21st, 25th, 28th and Jan. 4 at the church.
Worship teams have included Katie DeRoo, Kevin Friesen, Jamie Small, Pastor Jeff Peacock and Michayla. Ushers were Matt Penner, Jon Timmerman, and Erik Picard.
Prayer Focus was led by Rick Ross, Clayton Kimber and Kevin F. Scripture readings were done by Clayton, Rick and Michayla. Advent candle readings were done by Andrea Penner and a daughter, Michayla and Caleb Peacock.
Pastor Jeff used the Gospel of John 1:1-14 as his text through the three Sundays. On the 21st he spoke from verses 1-4 with teaching on the Trinity as well as a general introduction to the writings of the Apostle John.
On the 25th the text was Luke 2:1-20, the well known Christmas narrative. On the 28th, the Lesson from John 1 used verses 5-9 seeing Jesus as a person of the Trinity. The passage also introduced John the Baptist. The veracity of Jesus as Son of God was being supported by multiple witnesses.
On Jan. 4th the verses highlighted were John 1:9-18. Jesus was shown as Light and Life. Pastor Jeff gave a list of characteristics of Jesus. John concludes this prologue to his book with a clear description of the way of salvation from eternal punishment for sin.
Salvation is conditional on a person believing and trusting Jesus as Son of God, the Saviour of the world. The sermon concluded with the celebration of Communion, with Kevin and Clayton assisting as servers.
The music from Dec. 21, 25 and 28 included a lot of Christmas songs such as “O come All Ye Faithful”, “What Child is This”, “O Little Town of Bethlehem”, “Silent Night”, “Joy to the World”, and “Go Tell It on the Mountain”.
On Jan. 4th, Michayla had scripture readings with several of the songs: Psalm 103 with “Bless the Lord (10,000 Reasons)”; Hebrews 4:14-16 with “Before the Throne of God Above” and Isaiah 53:3-12 with “When I Survey/ The Wonderful Cross”.
The weekly Youth Group meetings are resuming Wednesday 7:30 p.m each week. Their January activities will include a retreat weekend at the Valley View Bible Camp site near McGregor.
