For Sunday Nov. 16th, the Sunday School hour became a Packing Party in the lower hall for Operation Christmas Child. Preprinted boxes were folded in a game. The items to fill them were laid out on tables with sufficient to fill 30 boxes.
Rachel Picard supervised the event. Those 8 and under were each paired up with an adult. Everyone else was distributed between the packing tables. There were 6 categories of gifts: Boys or Girls, and 3 age groups. The hour included snacks and visiting time around the tables.
The church service began with Erik Picard giving the announcements. Brianna and Jamie Small were worship leaders. Byron Timmerman served as usher. Lorna Unrau read the Bible lesson from 2 Corinthians 6:1-10.
Pastor Jeff Peacock led the Prayer Focus. The Mission of the Month is AGC Staff. He made particular mention of the Western Region Director Rob Cochrane and his wife, Wendy of Swift Current, SK. In the first two years of his term they visited every AGC congregation from BC to Manitoba. As a pastor to pastors, Rob Cochrane encourages and advises. Wendy has an effective ministry to pastors wives, supporting them in their unique situations.
Hymns included “His Mercy Is More”, “Nothing But the Blood (first line: What can wash away my sins)”, “Our God”, “Living Hope”, “You are my All in All” and, for the closing, “Lord, I Need You”.
Pastor Jeff’s sermon on 2 Cor. 6:7 continued the study of the Apostle Paul’s directives for servants of God in effectively commending themselves within the church and to the world beyond. The first characteristic being “The word of truth” or “speaking truthfully”. Often with specific reference to speaking the Gospel of Salvation.
The mental preparation involves knowing the Word of God. Knowledge involves daily feeding on God’s Word, meditation, daily growth in service. People of today have vast resources in multiple translations readily available. For centuries people yearned for access to Spiritual Truth.
The personal knowledge is enabled by the work of the Holy Spirit within. A supporting text in Ephesians 6:10-18 describes the Armour of God with defensive weapons, readiness weapons, and the only offensive weapon, the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.
