News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Sept. 11, 2025
Somerset Bible Chapel
September opened with a Communion Sunday on the 7th. Erik Picard presented the announcements, Rick Ross led the Prayer Focus, Jonathan Timmerman was usher, Clayton Kimber read the Bible lesson from Ruth 3:1-18.
Jamie and Brianna Small led the music for the worship service. The songs used were “”Our God”, “10,000 Reasons” and “His Mercy is More”; then instrumentals for the offering and during Communion. “Before the Throne of God Above” preceded the sermon with “The Doxology” following.
Pastor Jeff Peacock led the Communion observance. The “Lord’s Supper” as set forth in Luke 22:14-20 and 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 gives Jesus’ instructions. It has a dual purpose: to remember the death of Christ and to look forward both to His return and the “Marriage Supper of the Lamb” as portrayed in Revelation 19:6-10.
Pastor Jeff opened his sermon with a reminder that the service is a family service and that child sounds are welcome. The back rows are reserved for families with young kids. He reminded everyone that parents are in the process of training the little ones.
The sermon series from the book of Ruth moved on to Chapter 3. In this section the Hebrew concept of “Kinsman Redeemer” is portrayed. In the near East countries of the day, widows and orphans could expect a life of poverty and danger. God’s laws provided various means for care, protection and support for widows and orphans.
Ruth is a Moabite so was unfamiliar with Hebrew worship and culture. Naomi gives instructions to her on how to prepare and present herself in the proper way to this man, a near kinsman to her late husband and his father.
Boaz sees her as a woman of noble character. He knows of a nearer kinsman entitled to serve as redeemer. In abiding to the laws of the day, being obedient to God, he makes this known. He sends Ruth home with a generous measure of the freshly winnowed grain of the day before.
Pastor Jeff concluded the message with two principles: We do well to follow God’s law closely. God will always provide and can be trusted even in bitter circumstances. His followers can rest in Jesus as Redeemer and Provider for Peace and Security.
