News from Isabel Acheson for issue of Oct. 16, 2025
Somerset Bible Chapel
Thanksgiving Day weekend at the church, attendance was down due to a variety of reasons. Several participants were filling in for those scheduled for the day.
The Welcome Announcements were given by Rejean Picard who also served as usher.
The Prayer Focus was led by Kevin Friesen who also served Communion along with Clayton Kimber. The worship team was Pastor Jeff and Alanna Peacock with Jamie Small at piano. Isabel A. read the Scripture lesson from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 and from Philippians 4:4-7.
The songs and hymns included “Bless the Lord (10,000 Reasons)”, “Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me”, “Here I Am to Worship (first line “Light of the World”), “You Are My King (f.l. “I’m forgiven”)” and “The Heart of Worship (f.l. “When the music fades”).
Pastor Jeff led the Communion service, speaking of the “Table of the Lord” as a celebration of thanksgiving observed in the Christian family of believers.
Pastor Jeff, in his return to the pulpit after 4 Sundays off, chose to focus on Biblical references to Thanksgiving related to Prayer. “No Need For Anxiety” seems to summarize the insights shared.
In both Scripture selections, the apostle Paul is the author of the letters. In both selections, the practical instructions are a rapid fire series of short directives. In both selections, effectual prayer leads to peace, to focusing on God and His will for life.
Both passages give directives for Rejoicing (to be pleased, to be calmly happy), for Praying in all circumstances, to pray with Thanksgiving, to Let your Requests be known to God (It’s okay to tell God your worries and concerns. But then leave the matter in God’s hands).
The peace that God provides protects heart and mind. God’s peace surpasses all human understanding. The sermon closed with reading Psalm 23 (The Lord is my Shepherd) and Psalm 46 (God is our refuge and strength).
The Youth Group program for Wed. October. 15 is to be a thanksgiving supper (Mystery Menu).
The church Thanksgiving Supper is set for Sunday October 19. All the slots are filled for the posted food list, and the attendance registrations have filled a page on the white board at church.
