March 10, the Sunday morning of Time Change weekend, the only noticeable effect was that the timer for the coffee maker didn’t get the message! The break between Sunday School and the worship service was missing the usual dispensers!
Erik Picard led the announcements. Rachel Picard gave information on the Youth Group fundraiser (Mom’s Pantry Products) for their Retreat Weekend and other activities.
Kevin Friesen, son Parker and son-in-law Jamie Small, served as music team with Michelle as video tech. The music selections included “For God So Loved”, “Blessed Be The Name” and “The Last Word”. The Instrumental for the offering was “It Is Well With My Soul” and the usher was Al Dyck. “Jesus My Redeemer”, “His Mercy is More” and “The Wonder of It All” rounded out the song list.
Pastor Jeff Peacock led the Prayer Focus. The Mission of the Month is the AGC (Associated Gospel Churches of Canada) Staff and President. Rev. Lorne Meisner of Winnipeg is the Associate Regional Director, AGC West.
For the Communion celebration (postponed from the 3rd), Pastor Jeff read from 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 highlighting the phrase “In Remembrance of Me” that Jesus used in instituting this ordinance. The need for personal preparation was noted from Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me O God , and know my heart! … see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”
Pastor Jeff stated this would be the final current sermon on the first chapter of Romans. The Rom 1:18-32 passage was read. “Wisdom and Foolishness” was one aspect of the description of confusion people are faced with. 1 Cor. 1:18-31, also written by the Apostle Paul, uses the term for foolishness in the same way.
The section of verses 23-28 describe three exchanges that take place. They follow a downward progression. Impurity arises from the heart. Idolatry attempts to replace Almighty God in one’s world, and justify dishonourable passions. A debased mind is one which “does not pass the test” as in refined metals that contain too much impurity.
The glimmer of hope was back in Rom 1:16-17, “… the righteous shall live by faith” and further on in Rom 7:18-8:1 “Thanks be to God who delivers me”.
